Dr. Seuss: The Flower

Lynedoch Crescent D 128

I hate being asked where I get my ideas. I suspect Dr. Seuss must’ve hated it worse. “Oh, I actually snort crushed baby coatimundis, that’s where I got that whole Lorax thing,” I imagine he must’ve been tempted to say.

He just didn’t have it as bad as a YA novelist, though. I mean, seriously. I looked at this flower on a walk the other day and it was like “Nature by Seuss.” The man had all the help he needed.

Today I moved three bookshelves and all of my books from one room to the next… and thoroughly botched dyeing a chair cover. It is now a bird-poop green instead of the deep green I envisioned. *SIGH* Aaand back to the store for more dye. Next time, I will actually read the directions… Oh! Did you see that 100 Scope Notes has uploaded the CoverFail gallery? Good fun, there.

Happy Weekend!

  1. That flower is sooo Seuss! Sorry about the dye thing, but maybe next time it will work. If there are non-natural fibers it is unlikely to dye to a deep anything color with regular dyes. Natural fibers soak up the dye much better. (I used to have a business where I hand dyed and painted clothing so this information may be dated.)

  2. Coincidence–I was just touring a cave yesterday, the sort with tremendous stalagtites and stalagmites–and was struck by their resemblance to the Seussian landscape…

  3. But, you see, we non-authors LOVE to hear where you get your ideas. It's a conundrum, huh? I'm always scared to ask.

    What a gorgeous flower.
