{thanskfully 2.0: death}

Okay, this one is going to worry some of you no matter how I put it…

Glasgow West End 36

Last night, we went to an All Soul’s requiem. Thought it is not a tradition of my faith – or, whatever bits make up my faith at the moment – it’s a lovely tradition nonetheless to bring to mind those who have died, and to remember them. Just… remember them, on a cloud of frankincense and on the wings of song. Just to remember them, and to think of them, safe.

Recently I read a novel wherein Death decided to hold humanity hostage, and let me tell you, it pounded home the necessity and the relief of An End to things. I have learned to understand that death is so much of a relief at times – anyone who has gotten a face-to-face with cancer knows the truth in that. While I won’t dwell on the topic, I will say I am grateful for the period at the end of the sentence; the calm at the end of the storm, the rest at the end of a long day. For death – safe, silent rest.

And for this I give thanks.

  1. Have always loved the poignancy of the phrase: in the midst of life, we are in death. Don’t think it is morbid at all~just having an awareness that all of this, is temporary. Makes it all the more enjoyable.
