Some of my friends think I live under a rock, so I guess I need to say this: Yes, I have heard of a.) Justine Larbalestier, b.) her book, LIAR, c.) and the cover thing. Yes. Thank-you. And, the whole kerfuffle is one of the many reasons I heart my buddy Liz. Yay for challenges — and gratitude to Susan at Color Online for Color Me Brown in August. But I hope that this is more than…February, if you know what I mean. Yes, by all means, be challenged in August. And then roll with September. October. November. December. Hear what I’m saying? I’ve watched friends like Charlotte – to totally put her in the spotlight – suddenly realize that, “Hey. I have no brown books for my kids.” And then do something about that. On just a random day in May. The only challenge needed was internal. Take note, world, of THAT.

Well said, Tanita! Every so often, an issue like this arises and everyone gets up in arms — when, really, it's been happening for a long time, and real change comes slowly with sustained effort. The dialog is good, challenges are good, jump starts are good — but we all have to prepare ourselves to go the distance.
Gee–thanks! I haven't "signed up" for the diversity challenge for some of the same type of things you are thinking, and what Beth says–I don't want it to be a challenge, but a habit…
I know just what you mean. The only change that counts is permanent change.
