Thinking of Molly

Two years ago today, my all-time favorite columnist, Molly Ivins, died of cancer. She wrote about politics, which isn’t something I like to talk about much, but she wrote truthfully about life and she was funny and brave and a shoot-from-the-hip type of Texan whom I really respected.

She once wrote,“I don’t have any children, so I’ve decided to claim all the future freedom-fighters and hell-raisers as my kin.”

I hope someday to be, in my own small way, enough of a hell-raiser (in a polite, self-conscious way) to be counted as kin. Until then, may we all stay safe, and choose hope over fear. May we someday leave aside our overwhelming fear for our safety, lest we scare ourselves to death.
