{thanksfully 2.0: Miyazaki}

My name is T, and I watch cartoons.

It’s probably not an issue you really needed to have this intervention for… I mean, it’s not like I’m watching Biker Mice From Mars and Sonic the Hedgehog before work anymore. I’m fine, people, I am FINE. So what if I have to watch My Neighbor Totoro every few months? So what if I’ve got a Totoro doll, and want the hoodie, and found little Susuwatari (soot sprites) like the ones in Spirited Away to put on the walls in my office? I DO NOT have a problem! Some of us are just … serious about our icons.

And, when they say they’re retiring, we’re kind of gutted.

I guess this one is categorized under “whimsy,” or “Things that Make Me, Me,” but I’m grateful for this man’s artistry, and his life nonetheless. I can turn on a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibili film and go far, far away.

I’ve never been to Japan. I may never go. But, in my heart, I have dreamed there.

And, for this, I give thanks.
