{thanksfully 2.0}

My friend Barb reminded me this afternoon that gratitude is always the best response to everything… and so, this Thanksgiving month, I am going to indulge once again in a wallow of gratitude for — everything that has happened to me this past year.

Glasgow West End 55

It has not all been awesome.

Finding out that you’ve had some weird endocrine system failure that’s been dragging along for years and you’ve never been the best you could be – that’s both reassuring and totally infuriating. I spent time wondering why other doctors couldn’t have figured this out before now, I spent time fuming and fussing and resenting the medication and the cost —

And then, I was granted the grace of a very good, very kind, very quirky doctor. I was granted the grace of seeing my circumstance for what it was — in the “couldabeensomuchworse” category. I was granted the grace of, with a little help, a new medication, a bit of adjustment, a superb new chiropractor — improvement.

I’m in Scotland this week, and every time I walk through the neighborhoods, up hills and down, in rain, wind, and calm (hah), I am a little sweaty, a little out of breath – as much as anyone would be, who isn’t used to miles of walking so much as miles of driving. But, every time I cross through a new neighborhood, and see a carpet of cyclamen growing across a tiny postage stamp lawn, or, every time I wander down a lane and see a red-dipped leaf in a ray of sun, and every time I crest a hill, and make it back to our flat when I thought I’d not be able to, I think, “Yes. I can do this now, much better than when I lived here. Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.”

Health.

And, for this, I give thanks.

  1. Grateful to have been a part of reminding you of your blessings. Grateful to be coming out of a dark place and back to remembering mine. SO GRATEFUL to have you in my life. Grateful you are healing.

    (And a teeny bit green wishing I were in Scotland, too.) 🙂
