{homeschool giveaway day!}

HAPPY TUESDAY! Somewhere, it’s 11:00 a.m., which means it’s time for the giveaway! MARE’S WAR will be out in paperback in February, but if you are a.) a homeschooling family, or b.) a homeschooled kid or c.) a librarian who works with homeschoolers, today is your chance to receive an early copy.

After a parent request, I worked up a Homeschool Teacher’s Unit on Mare’s War. It reminded me of my 1:1 teaching days, which were actually kind of like homeschooling (for the State of California; my students were in group homes, so I visited them instead of them coming to me) and started thinking about the fact that there are probably not a lot of book contests strictly for homeschool folk. So — this one is.

And it’s straight up simple. Just — leave a comment, then drop me a note. Tell me hi, tell me how long you’ve been homeschooled, say you love it, tell me you’re studying WWII and dread trying to write — or grade — a decent essay about it. The first twenty-five of you who comment will automatically receive a copy of the book! (Please don’t leave your mailing address in the comments [unless you don’t mind sharing it with the world?]; send your address in a note, using the private contact form. EDITED TO ADD:The contest is over; please don’t send your address! Sorry you missed it.)

But, if you’re a latecomer and not one of the twenty-five, don’t let that stop you from commenting! I’ll give away a few more books to random people who amuse or interest me — names I’ll pick out of a hat. Those folks also might get a hardback copy instead of a paperback, FYI.

So, that’s my “contest” of sorts — a chance to celebrate homeschool folks and to honor the parent teachers who are doing their own thing, and doing a great job with it.

Happy Giveaway Day!

EDITED TO ADD: Comments are closed now, the contest is over; thank you to all of you who showed up to play yesterday!

  1. Hi!
I have been homeschooling my 3 from the start–I have a high school freshman, a 7th, and a 4th grader. My oldest is a history-loving boy who knew more about WW II by age 6-7 than I ever have.
    Thanks.

  2. So, This is interesting. I would be interested in reading your book, and sharing it with my kids. They are a little young, but military history is an interest of mine..and you can be sure they will be learning about it. The twins and I start with a homeschooling program this fall. Can’t wait!

  3. I’m interested in your book. I have just finished teaching a semester ( for our local homeschool Coop) of high school level history. It was focusing on the Revolutionary Era, though. I have taught from the home for 9 years. Starting when my children were infants, I began teaching other families. This will be my last year for that (as our family is still growing). My children’s ages are 8, 6, and 18 months (and -6months).

  4. I homeschool my 2 girls, 2nd and 3rd grade. We’re chugging along American History right now and looking forward to filling our timeline as we move forward in time!

  5. I have been homeschooling for about 10 years now maybe longer..

One of my sons ( i have 4 of my own , 1 stepson,,) has developed a great interest in Wars
this will just help bolster his interest!

  6. Thank you so much for the opportunity to own your new book! I have homeschooled my four children for 11 years, and am covering WWII this year with my two oldest kids. I am looking forward so much to reading Mare’s War!

  7. We just started homeschooling this year…took the three oldest out of school and the little one was still at home. We LOVE it and the kids are so interested in everything but my eldest is very keen to learn more about WWII!!

  8. Hi 🙂

I have been homeschooling my son for seven years, and now his sister is school aged as well.

We have not studied WWII yet, but your book looks like a very interesting perspective.

    Thanks for sharing it!

  9. Congratulations on your book! Love that you’re doing your own unit. Very cool.

My eldest boy is in a study group with friends and they are working on WWII right now. We’re reading along with him and finding it very engrossing (the Usborne IL books are great). So we’d love a copy.

I just finished Mrs. Millburn’s Diaries. Have you read it? One woman’s account of living through the war.

  10. This is our first year to homeschool and we love it so much there is no longer any question of going back! This sounds like a wonderful resource!

  11. We’re going through Western Civ II from 1500–WWII is coming up in about two months, so we’d love a copy!

  12. Sounds like a cool book!

I am the oldest of 4 and I am sure my siblings would love to read this book as well. 🙂

We would like a copy also please!

    Thanks! Jonathan

  13. We’d love a copy — we’re studying modern history this year and will be getting to WWII soon. Thanks.

  14. I love books about WW2 (well, and about everything else as well!!).
I’d love to get this! Thanks!
